Major Orange Gelee News! Updates! Hope!
We first wrote about our obsession with all things ‘Gelée’ back in 2022 when we first heard that the brand was being discontinued. It was a sad day around the Trendsicle offices.
We spent endless hours trying to find any remaining Orange Gelee tubes available online (see below) from places like Amazon and eBay. Anyone who was selling those tubes were either half used and/or priced at hundreds of dollars. Yikes!
Well, the New Year kicked off and we were given some really amazing news. Bain de Soleil Orange Gelee is officially back! There’s a bit of a catch, but there’s more promise and hope than ever before.
The super fun and retro brand, Vacation, has taken over and is in process or recreating the famous cult favorite with their own sunscreen and skincare experts and the fans of the brand. Sadly, we weren’t asked for our input, but we’re just happy to have gained this info.
According to Vacation, they’re still working on perfecting the formula (the image we have above of the new Orange Gelee tube isn’t the final design) and it’s expected to be released online for purchase in the Summer of 2024. And while there isn’t a specific date yet, we’re totally counting down to summer.

The good news is that I STILL have one brand new unopened tube or Gelee, so once the newbie is released I’ll do a review and comparison to see if it matches up well with the OG (I’m super hopeful it will).

Welcome, to all of our Orange Gelée fans out there! We’ve been looking for our summer-must-have Bain de Soleil just about everyone online and in-store, but with basically no luck. If you’re in the same boat as us, read on!
Is it even summer if you don’t have your Bain de Soleil? Like so many out there, we’ve been using it since the 80’s. We can name that scent from a mile away and that orange gel-like texture feels great on our skin. The one problem? The makers have discontinued it. Yes, really. Why? We’re not sure – but we feel like it’s a personal attack.

Clearly we’re not alone in our love for all things Orange Gelée because there is now an online petition where more than 6,000 people have signed demanding that Bayer bring it back to store shelves. Our personal opinion is that even if they don’t stock it on store shelves, at least let us be able to buy it online – and not at astronomical prices!
At last look we’ve been unable to find it on Amazon (if you do find it, it’s most likely a third party seller). And we’ve seen a bottle/tube for sale on eBay for $400. Come on! How is this even legal?! While we 100% do not recommend to pay that much (ever) below is a quick guide on a variety of places we did find it in-stock. Please (please, please, please) do not pay top dollar for this and make sure that if you are it’s with a reputable seller.
If you click through and see they’re not currently in-stock don’t yell at us! We’re trying our best! We’ll keep updating this article when we find new places to buy it and will keep you posted if/when Bayer brings this back to the market (fingers crossed).

BAIN DE SOLEIL ALTERNATIVES & DUPES
Like we said, we 100% get it. Nothing compares to the original. However, if you’re looking for something to replace your beloved orange gelee, here are a couple of alternatives that might fill that void. Please note, we know they’re not the same, but there are little pieces of each of them that may compare.
Hampton Sun SPF 8 (or 15) Gel
Hampton Sun’s tanning gel, while not a direct replica of our favorite Orange Gelee, it still does help you achieve a natural-looking tan while also protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. It’s formulated with high-quality ingredients that work together to moisturize and nourish your skin while also giving you a really natural looking, even tan.
One of the key ingredients in this tanning gel is aloe vera, which is known for its moisturizing and healing properties. Aloe vera helps to soothe and hydrate the skin, making it the perfect ingredient for a tanning product. It also contains natural oils such as walnut oil and sunflower oil, which help to nourish and protect the skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
I wanted to note the sunflower and walnut oil just in case you’re allergic!
Overall, it’s easy to apply and absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving it feeling soft, silky and smooth. It actually smells really nice and does’t leave any sticky residue or any streaks.
The one we’ve listed contains SPF8, but Hampton Sun also has an SPF15 option available as well.
Maui Babe Browning Tanning Lotion
Ok, hear me out. This in no way smells like your beloved orange gelee, but it is one of the best tans I’ve ever gotten. This one doesn’t have SPF in it at all, so when I use it I always apply a base SPF first. Don’t worry, you’ll still tan – you’ll just help prevent the likelihood of burning. A little goes a long way with this one!
Maui Babe Browning Tanning Lotion is getting more and more popular these days and really does help you achieve a deep, natural-looking tan while also nourishing and moisturizing your skin. This lotion is made with a unique blend of natural ingredients, including Kona coffee extract, which is known for its ability to accelerate the tanning process and give the skin a beautiful, golden glow.
Australian Gold With Carrot Oil
While this tanning oil from Australian Gold does have SPF4 in it, it’s important to note that those with very fair skin may need one with a much higher SPF.
One of the key ingredients in this sunscreen is carrot oil, which is rich in vitamins and antioxidants that help to protect the skin from environmental damage. This oil also helps to nourish and moisturize the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
Overall, it’s easy to apply and absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving no greasy residue. It has a yummy tropical scent that is reminiscent of a day at the beach because, well, you’re either probably there or at your pool!

Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Oil (SPF 25)
If still want a great tan, but still want some additional SPF protection, you may want to give Australian Gold Protective Tanning with SPF 25 a go.
One of the key ingredients in this tanning oil is a blend of natural oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil, which help to nourish and hydrate the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. The tanning oil also contains aloe vera, which helps to soothe and calm the skin, reducing the risk of sunburn and other forms of sun damage.
This one is cruelty-free, vegan, and even water resistant for up to 80 minutes before you need to reapply.
