Dog Probiotics 2024 - Best Chew Probiotic for Dogs

There’s really no one we like shopping for than our dogs and, well, since they’re total fam we want to make sure we’re giving them the best of the best.  We’ve added probiotics to our own diet to help with our overall gut health and now dog probiotics is on the come-up, so you know we’re all in.

We were researching all about the latest prebiotic gummies and supplements when we discovered an entire world of dog probiotics.  They’ve seen a more than 500% increase in searches over the last 6-months so we were more than intrigued.

In case you didn’t know, the short answer is that probiotics are actually live bacteria that can be good for you, your gut, and your overall digestive system.  Usually humans take it in capsule form or, at times, powders.  But now our furry little friends are getting in on the action, and the interest is growing by leaps and bounds.

A recent study shows that almost 40% of American consumers actively seek out probiotics for their own health and almost 30% are claiming that their pet is always on a nutrition supplement.  So, it only makes sense that everyone is buzzing about probiotics for your dog!

And when it comes to dogs, experts suggest that these supplements can help with things like:

  • Aiding in overall digestion.
  • Reducing allergic reactions.
  • Treating irritable bowl and diarrhea.
  • Prevent anxiety and reduce stress.
  • Affect mood and overall emotions.

As always, we recommend to check with your vet first before starting any kind of medication, supplement, etc, so when you do you’ll be ready to test these out.  Some of the bigger brands in this space include ones like PetHonesty, Zesty Paws, and Nurtravet.  A lot you can find online at places like Amazon (of course!) and other pet-specific retailers like Chewy and Petco.

Through our research most of these probiotics come as chews – which most dogs love.  And the most popular flavors include pumpkin, peanut butter, chicken, and even duck.  They think they’re getting a treat and, TBH, they really are!  And they’re doing a little something good for their overall digestive health.  So, what’s our verdict on this?

While we clearly haven’t tried this ourselves, we’ve listened to the experts, did the research, and love the idea of supplementing their diet with something good for them – especially when it may help with lowering stress and anxiety.  We could all use that!

As always, check with your vet first and once you do, we say do it!

If you’re looking to give this a go, check out our picks for some of the best dog probiotics (so far) in 2024.
