It’s officially time to get mindful and simmer the heck down. Thanks to the new Muse Headband, meditation and mindfulness has never been easier. And if it worked for us, trust us, it can work for you!
You know what we could all use right now? A little mindfulness. But, if you’re like us, staying present, in the moment, and focused can be nearly impossible. We’ve tried every (well, almost) meditation app out there, but nothing got us on the zen track quite like Muse.
We decided to review Muse Meditation Headbands as part of our Trendy AF series – but let’s be totally clear. This isn’t a trend. It’s here to stay and, if anything, when it comes to meditation, we may even be a little late to the game.
Just so we’re all on the same page, no one sent us a Muse headband in exchange for a review of any kind. We did this the old-fashioned way, by purchasing it ourself and actually trying it out. We know. What a concept.
And you know what else? We’re not going to make you read endless pages and scroll forever just to see if we liked it. Here’s the bottom line. We don’t like it. We love it! See what we did there?
We were a bit skeptical and even read a few different reviews from sites we trust like Mental Floss. It wasn’t that their reviews weren’t perfect, but it was the overall design that got us a bit worried. We didn’t want it to feel like there was something weighing us down. However, since almost all the reviews we read were pretty stellar, we decided to give it a go and, well, we’re so glad we did. To say it’s life changing is a bit of an understatement.
Full transparency. We picked up the Muse-2, which (at this time) is their latest version. We hear it’s better than the original, but we’ve never used that one so we can only speak from our experience with “The 2.” First off, it’s not bulky or awkward to wear at all. We regularly wear a baseball cap, so it’s kind of the same sensation, but sleeker – if that makes sense.
Our old standby when it came to mediation was the Oprah/Deepak Chopra 21 Day Meditation Challenge app. Honestly, we still kind of love it. But here’s where Muse has been a game changer for us.
The band basically uses EKG to monitor things like brain waves, your heart rate, etc and provides a guided meditation specific to you based on exactly where you’re at in the current moment. So, it can detect when we’re starting to get bogged down with all kinds of thoughts and you’ll start to hear storm sounds/changes in the weather that’ll help remind you to let go, relax, and go back to center.
It’ll also track all of your progress so, while this isn’t a contest, like going to the gym the more your workout the stronger your muscles get (in theory). If you worked out only once, would you be surprised you didn’t have a six-pack yet? Exactly. It’s really the same thing. The more you practice this and workout your meditation muscles, the more you’ll improve.
Our only bit of true advice would be to just go easy on yourself. We were 100% in our head for the first week we used it. But then when we removed all expectations and followed along, we noticed (through the results) that we were, indeed, improving and basically feeling better each and every day. We think it even helped us sleep a bit better too.
If you haven’t heard of Muse yet, we strongly recommend giving them a shot. Anything that can help us chill the heck out (without meds) is a win in our book!
The Deal With Their Deals:
Of course, this can be a bit expensive for some of us (us included) so we did research a bit to find out what their deal was with sales throughout the year. Not the best news, but we always tell it to you straight. They usually don’t have major sales. In the past we have seen 15% off during Memorial Day and up to 20% off during Black Friday. We’ll keep you posted if we see anything similar this year (or at any other point during the year, for that matter!).
Muse does offer some deals if you choose one of their bundles, where you can basically save 20% – which is pretty rad. You’ll bundle it with a subscription, so it really is a no-brainer. Check out their current bundle options here!
The Deal With Promo Codes:
We totally get it, you really want there to be additional ways to save. But the truth is, while their promo code policy does accept coupon codes, Muse does not send them out to any other websites (and we don’t have any exclusives here at all).
We did find, however, that the only place you can get any form of discount code will be directly from their site. Sign up for their free newsletter and they’ll email you any promotions, new products, or future sales. And, if there is a discount they’ll automatically enter in a unique code right at checkout.
Clearly by now you know how we feel about this. We’re totally saying, do it! It’s a great way to to learn better ways to stay present, meditate, and just feel better overall. It’s been one of our favorite purchases of the year and – well – it kind of makes a pretty genius and unique gift idea too!
