Everything old is new again and we couldn’t be more pumped about the release of the new Sega Genesis Mini plug and play console! Here’s everything we know so far.
With the growing popularity of nostalgic 80’s and 90’s gaming consoles like the Nintendo NES Classic and the PlayStation Mini, it only made sense that Sega would officially be getting into the game, so to speak. It was recently announced and we’re proud to introduce the official Sega Genesis Mini Plug & Play!
If you’re an old-timey gamer like us, you probably remember hearing about this release way back at the end of 2017 into early 2018, but then it never happened. Third party creators came up with with Genesis ‘Flashback’ consoles, but they fizzled out due to how subpar the graphics were and, well, people were pissed. This new mini Genesis is officially from Sega themselves so the quality is at 100%. Here’s what to expect.
What Comes With This New Mini Console?
- 1 official Sega-produced gaming console (it’s about half the size as the original)
- 2 wired gaming controllers
- 1 power cable
- 1 USB adapter (yes!)
- 1 HDMI cable (hooray!)
- 40 pre-loaded games
So What Pre-Loaded Games are Included?
This one is tight-lipped at this point. They’ll be releasing the names of the games in sets of 10 in the coming weeks and months, but the first batch we know about include:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Toe Jam & Earl
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Space Harrier 2
- Shining Force
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Comix Zone
- Altered Beast
- Gunstar Heroes
When is the Official Release Date?
There’s still a little way to go with this one, but Sega has announced that they’ll officially release the console on September 19, 2019. As long as you’re quick, you’ll have plenty of time to grab it before the upcoming holidays (fingers crossed) as it’ll likely be one of the most popular toys for the season.

What’s This Going to Cost Us?
