We never thought we’d be those people, but alas here we are dressing up our cute little pup in the funniest front-walking dog costumes for this Halloween 2024!  Here are some of our favorite costume ideas that work well for almost any dog (good boy or good girl!).

Funny Front Walking Halloween Costume For Dogs and Puppy 2024

One of the most popular trends in Halloween costumes for dogs this year is the front-walking costume. You’ve probably seen them all over TikTok and other social media channels where this type of costume is designed to make it look like your cute pup is walking on two legs in front of you, rather than four. In fact, TikTok video views alone on this trend have raked in more than 272 million views!

There are a number of different styles of costumes that make your dog look like they’re “front walking” from simple designs that just cover the front legs to more elaborate ones that also include a headpiece and other accessories.  Our POV is to go big or go home.  The more ridiculous the better!  Whatever style you choose, dressing your dog up  is sure to get some laughs – and maybe even a few treats (just watch out for those tricks!).

If you’re not sure where to start when choosing the right Halloween costume for your dog, a good starter point is some classic and “safe” options like:

1. The Classic Witch Costume

A classic witch costume is always a great option for a front-walking dog costume. To create this look, simply dress your dog in a black cape and hat to create a Wicked Witch of the West-inspired look.

2. Superman Dog Costume

Is your dog heroic? If so, why not dress them up as Superman this Halloween? This costume typically includes a red and yellow Superman cape, along with a blue shirt and red pants (or you can purchase a pre-made costume that includes all of these items). Don’t forget to add some black glasses to complete the disguise!

3. Dinosaur Dog Costume

If your dog is a bit more on the wild side, why not dress him up as a dinosaur this Halloween? This costume typically includes a green bodysuit with attached tail, along with a headpiece that features spikes or horns.  He (or she) can bring out their roar!

4. Lady Dog Costume

For a more sophisticated look, consider dressing your dog up as a sophisticated lady this Halloween. This costume can be as simple or elaborate as you like, but typically includes items such as a skirt, blouse, and hat (or you can purchase a pre-made costume that includes all of these items).

5. Pirate Dog Costume

Does your dog love to dig for buried treasure? If so, he’ll love dressing up as a pirate this Halloween! This costume typically includes a black or white shirt, along with a headpiece that features an eye patch and/or bandana.  Good luck keeping those on!

Now, since we’re not entirely traditional, we’ve found some of our favorite front walking costumes that actually made us laugh and would totally dress up our pup in one (if not all) of them.  Since everything is a bit crazy this year, we recommend to shop early to make sure you get everything on time.

1.  The Chucky-Inspired “Deadly Doll” Front Walking Costume
Amazon

$20 | Amazon

Nothing is scarier than that little creepy Chucky doll, but when your pup rocks this “Deadly Doll” costume and you see them running towards you, not only will everyone laugh, but they’ll all probably be a little freaked out too.  Overall, the costume is pretty easy to put on (uses Velcro) and comes with a soft wig that may or may not stay on depending on how your pup feels about wearing something on their head.  You can currently choose between small, medium, or large and the bigger sizes only increase the price by a dollar!

Helpful Review: “I purchased this for my mini golden doodle for Halloween and he definitely enjoyed gnawing on the little knife, while everyone who saw him in this costume got a good laugh! It’s absolutely adorable despite being a “scary” outfit. – FrequentFlyer

2.  The “Walking” Teddy Bear Suit
Amazon

$17 | Amazon

You stop it right now!  Look at how insanely cute and cuddly this Teddy Bear costume is for your dog!  We can’t deal!  It’s super soft, easy to step into, and has “faux arms” that are stuffed to make it look like your pup is standing up and walking.

Helpful Review: “I love this costume, more than my dog LOL! But he got use to wearing it after a few minutes. It fit exceptionally well.  My dog is wearing a size medium and he weighs around 20 lbs.  I highly recommend this costume and a great value for what you get. I was surprised when I came back to do a review that this costume didn’t have all 5 stars based on the quality of the material and how well made the costume is from head to toe. Rusty has worn this costume several times.” – Mary of Arizona

3.  The Dunkin’ Donuts Dog Costume
Spirit Halloween

$25 | Spirit

Apparently Halloween also runs on Dunkin!  Unlike some of the others out there, this one is officially licensed from Dunkin’ so it’s legit.  It comes with the costume itself and the visor.  Unfortunately, donuts and coffee isn’t included.  We wouldn’t recommend tossing this one into the washing machine, so just spot clean as needed.

Helpful Review:  “I loved this costume! My dog looked so adorable in it and he loved it as well! I was worried about the sizing at first, but it fit perfectly! Worth the price because it’s just so fun and creative. I bought the product for a costume contest.”  – Alexis13

4.  The UPS Delivery Driver
Chewy

$20 | Chewy

It’s one of the first front walking costumes that started the entire trend (and went viral online over the past 2 years).  Yep, we’re talking about the famous UPS driver!  The super cute stuffed arms with fuzzy fastener hands hold the detachable box in place, making it look like your pup is ready to deliver your package right to your front door. Currently there are four different sizes you can choose from based on the size of your dog:  extra-small, small, medium, and large.

Helpful Review: “Finny looked so handsome in his getup and he got so many compliments. I got an XS for him and it was still a bit big, but he’s 6 pounds so it’s hard to find clothes small enough for him. It was a great Halloween costume that gave us a good laugh.” – Finny

5.  The “IT” Pennywise Costume
Spirit Halloween

$25 | Spirit

$19 | Amazon

Pennywise from the famous “IT” movie (and book) may be terrifying, but your pup makes him look as cute as can be.  Not only does he come with the costume itself, but the famous red balloon (attached) and even a wig.  Good luck with keeping the wig on, but hopefully you can get your dog to sport it just for the pictures.

Helpful Review: “I bought a Large because my mixed breed has weird sizes. Glad I did as it was loose around the neck it fit perfectly on the legs. Wig is adjustable. He looks adorable.” – OkHckyLvr08

6.  The Front Walking “Granny” Dog
Frisco

$17 | Chewy

Turn your young little pup into a cute old granny that comes with an attached purse and a classic grey beehive wig!  It’s pretty easy to put on your dog; simply let them step their two legs into it and then fasten the rest around their neck.  Done and done!  This one comes in 7 different sizes to choose from starting at X-Small and going all the way up to XXX-Large.  We love the inclusivity.

Helpful Review: “Got this for my 60 lb husky to be the bad wolf that ate Red Riding Hood’s grandma. She is very dramatic and hated the wig but in the wig’s defense, there hasn’t been anything put on her head that she likes. The costume fit just right in every way.” – Dani

7.  The Pink Piggy Costume
Baxter Boo

$19 | Baxter Boo

$18 | Amazon

Is there anything cuter than turning your dog into a cute little piglet?! It’s easy for them to step right into and the plush stuffed arms and pig snout make this little cutie come to life.

8.  The Rambo-Inspired Dog Costume
Amazon

$27 | Amazon

Who doesn’t love the nostalgia of Rambo?!  It’s easy to step into (and ties around the neck) and the wig is pretty adjustable so it can work for all different sized dogs.  The stuffed arms make it look like he’s holding up a gun to help protect you…and maybe to get some extra treats this Halloween.

Helpful Review: “We used this for our chihuahua and it looked awesome. The arm with the gun would wave up and down as he ran, which was so funny.” – Laura

9.  The Disney Goofy Costume
Amazon

$31 | Amazon

$25 | Costumes.com

Turn your pup into the true Disney character they are, especially when they’re being goofy.  This cute Goofy costume comes as an easy step-in and also comes with the headpiece that really makes it all come to life.  If Goofy isn’t your jam, you can also choose from Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, or Donald Duck.

Helpful Review:  “Very cute dog costume! 3XL fits my 113 pound Anatolian. It must be comfortable because she didn’t seem to mind wearing at all. Even laid down and relaxed. Hard to find a costume that fits and she will tolerate.” – Teresa

10.  The USPS Doggy Mail Carrier
Amazon

$17 | Amazon

You know we had to add in the front-walking USPS mail carrier costume if we added the UPS costume and we really can’t get enough of this one!  Starting at an X-Small and going all the way to Large, this costume has a hook-and-loop closure that easily fastens around the back and the cute little box to be delivered is attached to its stuffed hands.

Helpful Review: “This has the best quality and the absolute cutest thing ever! When in motion, the box swings side to side and it’s so heckin’ funny when he walks!” – Gabrielle

11.  The French Artist
Frisco

$17 | Chewy

Ohh la la!  Get ready for your pup to paint the cutest little painting in his/her artist costume.  The beret easily attaches with a comfy chin strap – helping them to keep in on as long as possible.  At least to snap a pic or two!  Size-wise you can start as small as an X-Small and go all the way up to an XXX-Large (and everything in between).

Helpful Review: “For reference, I have a 27.5” standard poodle (measured from the shoulders/withers)and I bought an XX-L. This costume is super comfortable, I was looking for one that wouldn’t aggravate my boy too much because he’s pretty particular about costumes. It’s literally a collar around his neck and a fairly loose elastic strap around each leg it’s the equivalent of him wearing an apron. I was impressed with the headpiece the design is made to go around each year within adjustable strap around the head but mine won’t be wearing one because he hates head pieces and he’s black and the piece is black so it doesn’t really stand out anyway.” – Painter

12.  The Gumpy-Bear Care Bear Halloween Costume

$27 | Amazon

Everything old is new again and the same goes with the nostalgia from some of your favorite Care Bears.  This time around, our personal fave is the blue “Grumpy Bear” Care Bear.  Choose from a small and go all the way up to an extra large based on the size of your dog.  Seriously, how cuddly does he look?!  Even if he is “grumpy” you know he’s a total love bug.
